Snow Storm Information

Good Afternoon, Neighbors!

It's a snowy Sunday with quite an accumulation already. We wanted to share some updates and resources from our Council Member Lincoln Restler's office and check in with you all. Granit is prepared with salt and everything needed to keep our front area clear once the snow stops today. Please reach out to our community if you have any pressing needs or concerns for your health and safety.

From Lincoln Restler's Office:

• Forecast: The latest forecast is predicting 9-13” inches of snow in Brooklyn.  Snow fall rates will be increasing all day Sunday and tapering off on Monday morning.  Strong winds and sleet will create dangerous conditions. We recommend signing up for Notify NYCemergency alerts for critical updates on weather conditions. • Roads: The Department of Sanitation has begun pretreating highways, roads, and bike lanes.  They have 700 salt spreaders & 2,200 plows ready to begin plowing as soon as 2” of snow has fallen.  Please stay off the roads on Sunday to give plows and emergency vehicles space to do their jobs. • Keep sidewalks & hydrants clear: Property owners are required to maintain a clear path in front of their buildings that is at least 4 feet wide after snowfall has concluded. Snow and ice must be cleared from sidewalks within specific timeframes:

  
  

  ◦ Snowfall ends between 7AM and 5PM - Clear within 4 hours

  
  

  ◦ Snowfall ends between 5PM and 9PM - Clear within 14 hours

  
  

  ◦ Snowfall ends between 9PM and 7AM - Clear sidewalks by 11AM

• No heat or hot water: Contact your landlord and report to 311 here. The Department of Housing & Preservation responds to all 311 requests as quickly as possible and has increased staffing ahead of the storm.  Remember to never heat your home with a gas stove or oven, and do not use any gas-powered appliance indoors. https://portal.311.nyc.gov/article/?kanumber=KA-01036

• Helping Neighbors: Please check on any neighbors who may need additional support. If you see a homeless individual outside in need of housing, please call 311. The City has activated a Code Blue, which means every Department of Homeless Services Shelter will allow any individual to walk-in who needs housing.

  
  

• Public Transit: The MTA is preparing to keep operations running as smoothly as possible. Customers should expect delays and check the MTA app or website for the latest - especially for buses & above ground subway lines. • Schools:  Monday schools will be remote for grades K-8.  Students should have received a letter at school yesterday with information on how to access remote learning.  

  
  

• Lastly, it’s smart to charge your devices before a big storm just in case.
