False Alarm - FDNY Called

Hi Neighbors,

As some of you may have been aware we had a hallway fire alarm go off on the 5th floor around 1:20 AM Thursday morning, August 29th 2024. Some of us were in the hallway and one neighbor was able to waft the area around the alarm which appeared to deactivate it. Our board president called the fire department when the alarm was going off around 1:30 AM and met the FDNY at the door. They did an inspection after the alarm had turned off and gave the all clear that according to their meters there was no smoke or carbon monoxide in the area. We are thankful for their visit and reassurance.

We will be replacing this 5th floor hallway alarm in case it was a malfunction. If anyone has any more information, we welcome your insight. Out of an abundance of caution, we wanted to be sure there was no fire as this was the same floor and wing of our building where the fire began in October 2022.

We encourage all neighbors to refrain from the use of incense and candles as these can trigger alarms and cause fires if left unattended. You are also not allowed to smoke in the public areas of our building. Thank you for assuring the health and safety of all of us in the building. Thankfully we are all safe and can be reassured that our alarm system is functioning with loud enough alerts to wake some of the building, who were home at this time.
